Gather.Drink.Create (Linocut Tshirts with Artist Sean Starwars)

Get ready to Gather with us at Galactic Panther for a workshop that is out of this world, Its something fresh, fun and full of detail. For this class we have a special guest Teacher named Sean Starwars!! This class will be linocuts to the max!! It will be a long class so please be prepared to spend some time with us, get loose and have some fun, you will get a bit dirty and messy so wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind messing up.

In this class Outlaw Printmaker Sean Starwars will show you how to carve a killer linocut and print it on a shirt( bring as many shirts as you can print on) that will amaze your friends and family. In a few hours you will learn techniques it has taken him a lifetime to master.

About the artists:

Sean Starwars lives in Laurel, MS with his wife and 5 children. He has earned his MFA in printmaking from Louisiana State University. In Addition to making woodcuts for 30 years +, Sean has been an Adjunct Professor, a janitor, and a used car salesman. Currently Sean works full time as a printmaker and makes about a dozen visiting artist appearances a year at many of the nation’s leading art programs, and now he will be blessing us at Galactic Panther with his presence. You may have seen some of his work in our gallery, on magazines, album covers, tv programs and more, so trust this is a class you absolutely don’t want to miss.

This class will be from 10am -4pm, having a three step process in creating your masterpiece of a shirt. The first hour you will jump right into it and draw/transfer a killer image onto the woodblocks. Sean will give a brief talk outlining the role of the woodcut into art, as well as showing numerous contemporary woodcuts. Next he will teach safety and tell you the secret technique that has kept him safe from cutting himself in over thirty years of printmaking. Your day will be a marathon of cutting, cutting, and more cutting until your finished linocut is ready to print on a shirt! This will be when the real magic happens, that’s when we will bust out the color inks. You will experience a thrill of seeing your block come to life and then the satisfaction of wearing your art proudly on your chest. You will be amazed at what you can do in just few hours of one day!

Course Outline:

10:00am-11:00am: Introduction, Image prep demo, tool safety demo, cutting techniques, and mark making demo.

11:00am-2:00pm: Working on your blocks(carving)

2:00pm – 4:00pm: Continued cutting, Proofing and printing your linoleum on shirts, patches and stickers as time allows…..

The Class is $125 per person and includes supplies, pizza by Andy’s, 2 complimentary drinks (beer, wine, CBD, and non alcoholic for those under 21) we will also provide Tea by ESP tea and coffee for the morning to get you started.
